Black streaks on roofs and siding are Gloeocapsa Magma, a living algae colony that feeds on the limestone in asphalt shingles and concrete. It is not cosmetic. Left untreated, it spreads across the entire roof within two to three seasons and accelerates shingle granule loss. Standard pressure washing tears off the granules and voids manufacturer warranties. Soft washing is the only safe, effective solution.
